KUWAIT: Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs, Ambassador Sameeh Hayat, announced a major milestone in the strengthening of the partnership between Kuwait and Thailand, highlighting rapid progress on key development projects. His remarks came on the sidelines of the celebration of Thailand’s National Day, where he noted that cooperation with China has entered a pivotal stage, referring to the newly signed Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project agreement under the China-related memorandum of understanding, the minister revealed that the first phase of the project will be officially launched later this month, with expectations for significant developments with major Chinese state-owned companies in the near future.
On another front, the Assistant Minister emphasized that Kuwait-Thailand relations remain a model of longstanding friendship, describing it as historic and unblemished ties that span decades. He further explained that bilateral ties have expanded beyond traditional relations to include active partnership within the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD). He affirmed the continuity of coordination and consultation, recalling that the ACD itself was a joint Kuwaiti Thai initiative that has evolved into a key framework linking Kuwait with Thailand and ASEAN countries, adding that a meeting of foreign ministers is expected in the first or second quarter of next year to prepare for the upcoming ASEAN summit.
On trade, he stated that economic exchange between Kuwait and Thailand continues to grow day by day, stressing Kuwait’s interest in cooperation with Thailand in food security. The Assistant Minister revealed that the number of Kuwaiti citizens visiting Thailand has exceeded 100,000 annually, a notable figure relative to Kuwait’s population. Noting that travel to Thailand continues throughout the year, it has expanded to include destinations beyond the capital as Kuwaiti visitors discover new regions.

He also highlighted Thailand’s reputation in the medical and wellness tourism sector, noting that this position has strengthened following the first round of political consultations recently held with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Assistant Minister Hayat extended congratulations to Thailand on its National Day and offered condolences on the passing of the Queen Mother, who had a profound impact on the Thai people.
During her opening remarks, Uraiwan Courtaud, Chargé d’Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy, highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963, Thailand and Kuwait have steadily strengthened cooperation across diverse sectors. She emphasized that both countries’ efforts have enhanced mutual understanding and created a strong foundation for future partnerships, where both are committed to exploring new opportunities that will enhance the strong bonds that unite Thailand and Kuwait.
Thai Chargé d’Affaires noted that Thailand is globally recognized for its medical excellence and competitive wellness services, saying “The Embassy’s recent event ‘Rediscovering Health and Wellness Tourism in Thailand,’ convened leaders from major private hospitals in both countries, facilitating discussions on collaboration aligned with Kuwait Vision 2035, particularly in strengthening private-sector engagement and enhancing quality healthcare.” She concluded “Thailand and Kuwait not only work together to improve the welfare of our peoples but also share a strong commitment to multilateralism and mutual respect. As founding members of ASEAN and the GCC, our nations serve as bridges connecting two dynamic regions.”
