Kuwait envoy: National Day reflects well-established journey marked by significant achievements
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates celebrates its 54th National Day under the slogan “United,” reaffirming its national identity, deep-rooted Gulf and Arab heritage, and its longstanding model of development, modernization and forward-looking vision. The anniversary commemorates the historic decision of the rulers of the Emirates on December 2, 1971, to form the Union under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the Founding Fathers.
Since its establishment, the UAE has continued its rapid transformation, emerging as a leading regional and global model in innovation, economic growth and sustainable development. The occasion reflects national pride in the country’s achievements across various sectors and its success in building a nation that has become a beacon of stability, opportunity and dignified living for all residents.
This year’s celebration also highlights 54 years of progress in trade, investment and economic diversification. The UAE has cemented its position as a major global trade hub, expanding its regional and international partnerships through a series of comprehensive economic agreements aimed at boosting competitiveness and sustainable non-oil growth. Parallel advancements in infrastructure, human development, energy, transportation, digital transformation and the space sector have further strengthened the UAE’s standing as a center of excellence and innovation. The spirit of celebration is shared across the GCC, including Kuwait, under the long-held motto “Our Gulf is One.”

He said the UAE has become a global model thanks to the foresight of its leadership and its tangible achievements. Al-Zaabi highlighted the longstanding Kuwaiti-Emirati relations, built by the founding leaders and reinforced by decades of cooperation and cultural and commercial exchange. He emphasized the UAE’s historic support during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, noting that the sacrifices made during that period remain a lasting testament to the fraternity between the two nations.
He also praised the initiative of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to dedicate a week to celebrating Emirati-Kuwaiti relations, beginning January 29, which was warmly welcomed in Kuwait by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Earlier, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah expressed Kuwait’s deep appreciation for the initiative, noting that it reflects the noble sentiments of the UAE leadership and people toward Kuwait. President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said at the time that Emirati-Kuwaiti relations are rooted in “brotherhood, love and kinship,” recalling Kuwait’s unwavering support before and after the Union.
The nearly six-decade-long relationship between Kuwait and the UAE continues to serve as a model of strategic partnership, shared destiny and close coordination. Both countries remain committed to expanding cooperation, particularly in economic and development fields, in line with Kuwait Vision 2035 and the UAE Vision 2031. Kuwait also continues to recall with gratitude the UAE’s official and popular support during the 1990 Iraqi invasion, when the country welcomed tens of thousands of Kuwaitis and its armed forces took part in the liberation effort. As the UAE marks its 54th National Day, the enduring bonds between the two countries remain a cornerstone of stability and prosperity for the region.- KUNA
