KUWAIT: Dr Abdullah Al-Enezi, Acting Executive Director of the Environment and Life Sciences Research Center at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), announced that a specialized training course on the country’s air quality forecasting system will be held from December 1 to 4, 2025. Dr Al-Enezi highlighted that the system, developed by KISR in collaboration with Italian company ARIANET, is the first and only one of its kind in Kuwait. He described its launch as a pivotal step in protecting public health, providing early warnings when pollutant levels rise, and enabling authorities to take prompt measures to mitigate health and environmental risks.
The system operates continuously, using an advanced operational model to issue daily forecasts of pollutant concentrations across Kuwait, including sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and fine particulate matter. Dr Al-Enezi noted that access to accurate data allows decision-makers and relevant agencies to respond proactively to reduce the impact of air pollution. He added that the institute conducts regular reviews and updates to ensure the system’s outputs remain accurate and aligned with international scientific standards.

The upcoming training course aims to strengthen the capabilities of national personnel in operating the system and enhance the preparedness of government agencies in air quality monitoring and environmental risk management. Dr Al-Enezi emphasized that the system’s success relies on collaboration between national agencies and the use of its outputs to raise public awareness and inform environmental policy based on reliable data.
