KUWAIT: The Australian Embassy in Kuwait with the participation of community leaders including representatives of Soroptimist Kuwait, concluded on Friday 28 November a powerful Orange Motorcycle Ride across Kuwait in support of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The initiative brought together riders and partners in a visible statement of solidarity, with a particular focus on the vital role of male allies in raising awareness and advocating for safer communities for people of all genders.
Led by Australian Ambassador Melissa Kelly and Jafar Behbehani, in the presence of representatives of Soroptimist Kuwait, the orange convoy travelled through some of Kuwait’s most prominent roadways, drawing public attention throughout the morning. The ride highlighted how community platforms — including Kuwait’s active motorcycling community — can be leveraged to champion awareness and support survivors.
Following the ride, participants gathered at the Australian Ambassador’s Residence for an Orange Circle discussion. The conversation explored the social responsibility shared by governments, civil society, and individuals — especially men — in confronting gender-based violence and supporting those affected by it. Ambassador Melissa Kelly praised the strong turnout and the message it conveyed: “Ending gender-based violence requires collective action. When men step forward as allies, using their voices and visibility to challenge violence and discrimination, they help shift the norms that allow these harms to persist. Today’s ride made that commitment clear.”
Jafar Behbehani emphasized the significance of male participation: “The biking community is built on solidarity, and today that solidarity was directed toward a cause that affects families and communities everywhere. Standing as male allies is essential. Violence against women is not a women’s issue — it is a societal issue, and men have an active role to play in ending it.” The event contributes to a series of activities in Kuwait marking the 16 Days of Activism, the annual global movement running from 25 November to 10 December aimed at preventing violence, supporting survivors and promoting gender equality.
