KUWAIT: The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) announced on Sunday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) to establish a strategic framework for collaboration in space science, research and the development of national capabilities in this critical sector. According to a KFAS statement, the MoU aims to strengthen Kuwait’s role in the space sector through the exchange of scientific and technical expertise with MBRSC, while promoting joint initiatives in space exploration, remote sensing and applications that support sustainable development.
Areas of cooperation will include workshops, seminars, specialized training programs, and joint research and technical projects designed to build a strong national foundation in space science and technology. KFAS noted that this partnership extends its efforts to support the Kuwait National Space Research Centre (KNSRC), established with the blessing of His Highness the Amir and in collaboration with Kuwait University. KNSRC serves as a national platform to coordinate initiatives, develop research capabilities and empower young talent. The partnership with MBRSC will further expand opportunities for collaboration, leveraging the centre’s expertise in space mission management, astronaut training, satellite operations, and the processing and application of space data for developmental purposes.
The MoU also emphasizes innovation, knowledge and data exchange, and capacity building through training programs for researchers, engineers and students, in addition to implementing joint research and technical projects aligned with national priorities. KFAS highlighted that the collaboration supports its 2025-2029 strategy to foster innovation through advanced research and technology, while broadening opportunities for national talent. The partnership reinforces KFAS’ role as a key contributor to Kuwait’s knowledge economy and its ongoing efforts to position the country as a leader in space science and technology. — KUNA
