KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior announced Thursday that security personnel have arrested a social media user who posted videos and photos displaying large amounts of cash and gold, promoting of funds of unknown origin and an attempt to lure the public through illegal means.
The Ministry said in a statement that the arrest came as part of ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and trace suspicious funds, through joint work between the Anti-Financial Crimes Department and the Cybercrime Department. Initial inquiries showed that the individual is wanted in cases involving misuse of telecommunications, incitement to immorality, fraud, violation of privacy, and other offenses such as disturbing authorities, intentional damage to property and filing false reports.
Records also indicate prior criminal history, including theft, forced entry, assault, robbery, and non-final prison sentences in related cases. Following legal authorization from the Public Prosecution, the suspect was apprehended in possession of cash of unknown origin promoted on his online account. He and the seized items were referred to the competent authorities for legal action. The Ministry affirmed that it will continue to track and arrest anyone who exploits social media platforms for illegal activities, stressing it will not tolerate content that threatens societal security. — KUNA
