KUWAIT: Kuwait Municipality announced on Wednesday the nomination of Bader Al-Ajeel for the position of Secretary-General of the Arab Towns Organization (ATO). The nomination received approval from representatives of Arab cities during an emergency meeting of the organization’s Executive Council, held virtually at the invitation of Kuwait Municipality, a permanent member and host country. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Municipality explained that the meeting was convened to consider Kuwait’s nomination of Al-Ajeel as the organization’s new Secretary-General, reflecting the government’s ambition to enhance the organization’s performance and strengthen its regional role.
Bader Al-Ajeel, who joined the Arab Towns Organization in 2017, brings extensive experience in urban planning and development, allowing him to address municipal and developmental issues at both the local and Arab levels. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Ajeel said the role entails more than developing programs and initiatives; it involves reshaping the organization’s role as a center of expertise, a house of knowledge, and a regional authority on urban affairs. He highlighted the importance of continuous efforts to create platforms for exchanging experiences and developing national competencies in Arab cities, enabling them to play an active role in shaping their future. Al-Ajeel also stressed the need to enhance the sustainability of the organization’s resources and diversify its income sources, strengthening its ability to implement programs and support Arab municipalities effectively.
