CAIRO: Kuwait Television and the Development Sector of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information were honored with the Arab League’s Media Excellence Award on Wednesday, recognizing outstanding works in audio, visual, and print media across Arab countries. The award ceremony concluded the 55th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers under the theme “Arab Youth and New Media.”
The winners were presented with their awards by Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, the award’s patron; Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit; and Syrian Minister of Information Hamza Mustafa, chair of the current ministerial session. Kuwait Television received the award for Best Television Report for its feature “Youth’s Relationship with Social Media,” while Iraq Television won for Best Documentary on Digital Youth.
In radio, Algerian Radio won the Best Radio Report on youth, social media, and artificial intelligence, and Egypt’s Youth and Sports Radio received the award for Best Radio Awareness Report for Youth. In print media, Emirati journalist Hazza Abu Al-Raisi won for Best Investigative Report titled “Arab Youth and New Media,” while the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustour won for Best Opinion Column on the impact of hate speech on youth.

The Ministerial Council honors Ibrahim Matqi, Director of Development and Follow-up at the Ministry of Information in Kuwait.
In digital media, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) won for Best Photograph by Faisal Al-Wahima, Bandari Habram won for Best Digital Investigation on youth media sources, and Amal Nawfal from Palestine was recognized for Best Digital Video. The Ministerial Council also honored several media leaders, including Ibrahim Matqi, Director of Development and Follow-up at Kuwait’s Ministry of Information, for his contributions to Arab media, along with Khalid Al-Malik, Editor-in-Chief of Saudi newspaper Al-Jazirah, Minister Ahmed Assaf overseeing Palestinian media, and Ali Al-Sada, Director of Qatar TV.
During the session, Minister Al-Mutairi called for strengthened partnerships and responsible Arab media discourse capable of addressing regional and global developments. He emphasized the need for a strategic vision to uphold truth, credibility, stability, and development, while highlighting Kuwait’s strong condemnation of Zionist violations in Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza, and reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Under the directives of the political leadership, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information also organized a special celebration marking Kuwait as the Arab Media Capital for 2025, attended by Arab information ministers and media heads. Minister Al-Mutairi noted that a year-long program of events is underway, culminating in a closing ceremony to showcase Kuwait’s contributions and foster Arab media cooperation. He highlighted the Arab Media Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, a unified initiative to equip youth with skills to engage responsibly with media content, strengthen identity, and support development. He stressed that Arab media must serve as a professional, objective platform expressing the issues and aspirations of the Arab world while fostering dialogue with the international community.
Minister Al-Mutairi conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, wishing success for the ministerial session. He also thanked the Bahraini and Syrian Ministers of Information for their leadership roles and the Technical Secretariat for preparing the agenda, emphasizing the session’s aim to advance Arab media to meet contemporary challenges. Kuwait’s delegation to the session was headed by Minister Al-Mutairi and included Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, and Salem Al-Watiyan, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services at the Ministry of Information. — KUNA
