KUWAIT: Manal Al-Asfour, Director General of Kuwait Municipality, affirmed on Sunday that the third Gulf Municipal Week aims to explore ways to enhance municipal services across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, bringing together decision-makers, specialists and experts. In her opening remarks, Al-Asfour described the event as the result of the dedicated efforts of GCC leaders to unify the region and strengthen fraternity among the peoples of member states. She noted that GCC countries face similar challenges and share common goals in achieving smart, environmentally sustainable cities that meet the aspirations of future generations.
Al-Asfour expressed hope that the Gulf Municipal Week would serve as a practical platform for launching initiatives that translate regional cooperation into tangible outcomes, while producing scientific recommendations contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Engineer Salah Al-Rashidi, Head of the Scientific Committee for the third Gulf Municipal Week, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the five-day event showcases pioneering experiences from GCC countries in urban planning, the urban environment, municipal legislation and digital transformation.

Al-Rashidi added that the program includes a series of workshops and specialized dialogue sessions, covering key topics such as sustainable urban planning, urban environment management, legislative oversight and architectural identity. On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, representatives from Gulf municipalities reviewed major municipal projects planned for 2025-2026, exchanging knowledge on the latest practices and technologies in infrastructure development and municipal services. — KUNA
