NEW DELHI: Kuwait’s Ambassador to India, Meshaal Al-Shamali, affirmed that Kuwait’s contributions to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reflect the country’s deep appreciation of the agency’s critical humanitarian role and its global efforts to ease the suffering of refugees and ensure them a dignified life.
This came during Ambassador Al-Shamali’s meeting on Friday in New Delhi with the Head of the UNHCR Mission in India and the Maldives, Areti Sianni, where both sides reviewed the longstanding partnership between Kuwait and the UNHCR and the fruitful cooperation that has continued over the years. Al-Shamali emphasized that Kuwait’s support for the UNHCR’s programs and activities remains one of the key pillars enabling the agency to carry out its mandate effectively and on a sustained basis.
Siani commended Kuwait’s humanitarian contributions to organizations working in relief and aid, noting that such support strengthens their ability to fulfill their responsibilities. She expressed the UNHCR’s appreciation for Kuwait’s generous and continued assistance, and outlined the humanitarian activities implemented by the India office to support refugees and asylum seekers across the country. — KUNA
