KUWAIT: The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kuwait celebrated the 35th anniversary of German Unity Day, on Sunday. In his remarks, the German Ambassador to Kuwait Hans-Christian Freiherr von Reibnitz expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Kuwait for their continued friendship and support, conveying appreciation to Kuwait’s leadership the Amir, Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister for their steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. The German ambassador affirmed that his country and Kuwait share values of peace, resilience, and the rule of law, highlighting Kuwait’s role as a trusted partner in promoting international law and stability.
He also praised the growing cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), citing the recent EU-GCC Ministerial Meeting and High-Level Business Forum, which saw strong participation from German companies, as examples of progress in economic and political collaboration.
The Ambassador further underlined the positive momentum in Germany–Kuwait relations, noting the establishment of a Strategic Dialogue Framework and the recent visits by Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Johann Wadephul and His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait to Germany, expressing anticipation for the Prime Minister’s upcoming participation in the Munich Security Conference in February 2026.

Officials and diplomats attend the event.
This year, the German Embassy marked the Day of German Unity on November 9, rather than its official date of October 3, to highlight the historic significance of November 9 in German history. The Ambassador reflected on the day’s multiple historical milestones from the proclamation of the German Republic in 1918 to the tragic events of 1938, and most notably, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. “On November 9, 1989, peaceful demonstrations in Leipzig and other cities led to the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was a moment when millions of Germans regained their freedom and self-determination. Peaceful change is what we celebrate on our Unity Day,” the Ambassador said.
Turning to current global crises, the Ambassador expressed deep concern over ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan, warning that such tragedies risk overshadowing other pressing global challenges like climate change, water scarcity, and energy security. The event was attended by the presence of Dr Nader Abdullah Mohammed Al-Jalal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr Abdullah Meshal Al-Sabah, among diplomats and media representatives.
