KUWAIT: Zain Kuwait signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Environment Public Authority (EPA), aiming to align institutional efforts in environmental awareness, community engagement, the exchange of data and technical expertise, and supporting national sustainability initiatives. The MoU was signed at the EPA’s headquarters, joined by Nawaf Al-Gharabally, CEO of Zain Kuwait, and Nouf Behbehani, Acting Director General of the Environment Public Authority, along with senior executives and teams from both entities.
This step seeks to strengthen cooperation between Zain and the EPA across several key pillars. These include boosting environmental awareness and community participation through digital content and on-the-ground programs, exchanging information, data, and technical expertise to support evidence-based decision-making, and developing and supporting national initiatives for the transition to sustainability and addressing pollution.
Commenting on the signing, Nawaf Al-Gharabally said: “This partnership embodies Zain’s belief that technology is a bridge that connects innovation to sustainable impact. Through our work with the EPA, we will translate awareness into measurable operational practices that reduce environmental impact, enhance resource efficiency, and place people and the environment at the heart of corporate priorities.”

He added: “Our cooperation will focus on the exchange of data and technical expertise and on building team capabilities, with clear performance indicators and joint follow-up reports to ensure that every initiative delivers a tangible and scalable impact. We aspire to a model of institutional cooperation that embeds evidence-based decision-making and strengthens transparency in measuring results.” Al-Gharabally concluded: “At the community level, we will reinforce awareness programs in schools and universities, expand e-waste collection and recycling initiatives, and leverage our technological capabilities and digital platforms to promote positive behaviors that build a circular economy and a society that is more conscious of sustainability issues.”
Nouf Behbehani commented: “Today we are extending this cooperation with Zain, one of the nation’s leading companies in telecom and digital technologies and a key partner in the journey toward sustainable development. Zain has served as a distinguished model among national companies that have made social responsibility and environmental sustainability a core pillar of its work, and over the years has adopted high-value projects and youth and volunteer initiatives that have strengthened environmental awareness in the Kuwaiti society.”
She continued: “The signing of this MoU crowns a shared path and vision toward a sustainable environment and an economy that is more aware of its responsibilities toward people and nature. At the EPA, we believe that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility that can only be achieved through synergy between the public and private sectors and through partnerships that bring together technical expertise and institutional will in service of the nation. We look forward to this cooperation becoming a launchpad for pioneering future projects that contribute to a more sustainable future for Kuwait’s coming generations.”
This cooperation builds on Zain’s approach of embedding sustainability across its operations and programs. The company has joined the Kuwait Green Building Council as a Platinum member to enhance energy, water, and waste management efficiency at its facilities. It has also participated in community initiatives to reduce e-waste in schools and to embed a culture of circular economy, alongside youth partnerships focused on social innovation with measurable impact.
Zain affirms that this step strengthens cross-sector national partnerships and supports the nation’s efforts in environmental protection and community engagement. The company is committed to turning principles into actionable programs that balance environmental, economic, and social impact. Zain will also leverage capacity-building platforms and professional networks to develop sustainability standards.
