KUWAIT: Kuwaiti researcher Dr Nouf Al-Hamdan secured third place on Sunday in the inaugural “Thesis in Three Minutes” competition for the Middle East and North Africa, held in Doha, Qatar. Dr Al-Hamdan, who earned her PhD in Chemistry from Kuwait University, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that she was delighted to achieve third place in the region-wide competition. Her award followed a “distinguished presentation” of her research on the preparation of photochemical compounds capable of targeting and killing cancer cells, with applications in photodynamic therapy.
She expressed her gratitude to Hamad Bin Khalifa University, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, for organizing the competition, which encourages graduate students to present their research succinctly and in accessible language within three minutes to a panel of judges and a non-specialist audience.
Dr Al-Hamdan also thanked the College of Graduate Studies at Kuwait University for supporting her participation. The competition featured participants from universities across 17 countries, including Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen. — KUNA
