CAIRO: Kuwaiti engineer Abdullah Al-Ghareeb, a board member of the Kuwait Society of Engineers, won the 13th Arab Youth Excellence Award on Wednesday in the category of research and innovation achievement, the Arab League announced.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Ghareeb said the award recognized his pioneering project which aims to recycle glass and rubber waste to for use in concrete. He described the honor as a “crowning achievement for Arab youth efforts in research and innovation.”
Al-Ghareeb expressed pride in the project, which aims to address environmental waste by converting it into valuable materials that enhance concrete quality and support more sustainable infrastructure. He explained that the project highlights the importance of using industrial waste to improve concrete’s mechanical properties while reducing environmental impact. “The results achieved will contribute to advancing sustainable construction concepts in the region,” he added.
He dedicated the award to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, as well as to the Kuwaiti people. Al-Ghareeb emphasized that government support for innovation and scientific research played a major role in achieving this distinction.
He also thanked the Arab Youth Council for Integrated Development and the Arab League for their continued support of youth initiatives. “The award is an additional incentive to continue working on projects that serve society and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” he said. Al-Ghareeb highlighted that the recognition reflects the innovative and youthful spirit of Arab youth and stressed the importance of optimally investing young people’s energies for a better future.
He concluded by encouraging Arab youth to invest in education, scientific research and innovative thinking to meet challenges and create a brighter future for the region. — KUNA
