KUWAIT: Minister of Information, Culture and State Minister for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi on Wednesday affirmed that the formation of the higher committee for organizing continental and international sporting events hosted by Kuwait reflects the country’s commitment to ensuring such events are managed according to the highest professional standards. The statement came during a press briefing following the committee’s inaugural meeting at the headquarters of the Public Authority for Sports, attended by representatives of member government agencies and Chairman of the Kuwait Football Association Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah.
Minister Al-Mutairi said the committee will oversee all regional, continental and international tournaments hosted by Kuwait, presenting them in a manner befitting the nation’s status and leadership in the sporting arena. He highlighted the continued support of the political leadership for sports and athletes, noting its pivotal role in the success of sporting initiatives.
During the meeting, the work plan for upcoming tournaments was reviewed, including the French Super Cup scheduled for January 8, which will feature French champions Paris Saint-Germain facing Olympique Marseille, and the Asian Handball Championship set to commence on January 26. Discussions included hosting arrangements for the French Super Cup, coordination mechanisms among relevant authorities, and the establishment of detailed executive committee structures and organizational procedures for the event. Preparations for the Asian Handball Championship were also examined.
The Public Authority for Sports had announced on October 8 the formation of the higher committee under the chairmanship of Minister Al-Mutairi, with representatives from various government agencies and relevant sports federations as members. The committee’s mandate is to ensure the highest standards in organizing and hosting major sporting events and to reinforce Kuwait’s image as a regional hub capable of staging continental and international championships with excellence.
The committee is tasked with planning, supervising, and coordinating with governmental and civil entities, as well as establishing executive frameworks and regulatory standards to guarantee the success of events and maximize their sporting, media, and tourism impact. Minister Al-Mutairi emphasized that the committee’s formation is in line with directives from the political leadership to invest in sports as a key component of national development and to strengthen Kuwait’s presence in international sporting forums. — KUNA
