KUWAIT: UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Al-Salem, on Sunday met with leaders of the Central Agency for Illegal Residents (CAI) to discuss a number of issues of mutual concern, particularly the services and facilities provided to women and girls. In a statement, the Agency said the visit reflected Kuwait’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and exchange expertise in this field. Al-Salem was briefed on the Agency’s efforts to protect women and girls from violence, initiatives aimed at empowerment, and the range of services available to them.
She also viewed a visual presentation supported by statistics, highlighting the facilities extended to female illegal residents, including free education, healthcare, issuance of official documents and employment opportunities. Agency officials later responded to her inquiries and affirmed their commitment to upholding human dignity and ensuring rights in accordance with international standards and conventions.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah also met with Al-Salem to discuss joint efforts in protecting women and developing services for them. Al-Huwailah said the meeting provided an opportunity to highlight Kuwait’s achievements in supporting women across all categories, adding that national efforts continue to focus on enhancing social services in line with the state’s commitments to women’s rights. The meeting was attended by representatives of the ministry’s various sectors and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. — KUNA
