KUWAIT: Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Monday inaugurated the third operational phase of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and the new central kitchen at Al-Amiri Hospital, marking a major step in strengthening specialized health services and hospital infrastructure.
Speaking after the inauguration, Dr Al-Awadhi said the expansion of the PICU falls within the ministry’s strategy to enhance specialized care, boost response efficiency for critical cases involving children under 14 and expand hospital capacity to meet increasing demand. He noted the unit will ensure continuity of advanced care around the clock and help reduce complication rates through swift intervention.
The minister added that the new central kitchen constitutes a qualitative leap in nutritional services provided to patients and visitors, aligning with the ministry’s efforts to upgrade operational systems to international standards. He stressed that more than doubling the kitchen’s production capacity demonstrates the commitment of the ministry and hospital to deliver high-quality health and nutritional services, while advancing the vision to improve overall healthcare and patient satisfaction.
Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs Ibrahim Al-Naham said the projects represent a significant milestone for the ministry’s Engineering Affairs Sector. He explained that the PICU was developed in stages, starting with four beds in the first phase and now reaching 15 fully equipped beds in the current stage. Al-Naham further noted that the central kitchen underwent its largest renovation since 1992, outfitted with the latest international equipment and technologies, boosting service efficiency and increasing production capacity by 114 percent. — KUNA
