Manchester United are making progress in talks with Royal Antwerp to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
A £17.3m transfer is close to being agreed with the structure of the deal currently under discussion, sources in Belgium have told Sky Sports News.
Lammens was signed two years ago from Club Brugge and any sale would represent nearly 100 per cent profit for the Belgian club.
The potential arrival of the 23-year-old – if it were to go through – is seen as a long-term strategy, rather than bringing in a new number one.
United head coach Ruben Amorim has publicly said he is happy with his goalkeeping department.
Furthermore, there have been no offers for either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir.
United are always forward planning and know Onana could be with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations in December and January.
Amorim: It is not one in, one out in terms of signings
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Fulham, live on Sky Sports, Amorim was questioned about whether or not the club need to sell players before they can bring in further reinforcements this summer.
Before their pre-season tour to the USA, Amorim said five players – Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony – would not be going along with the squad.
Rashford has since joined Barcelona, while the others remain at Old Trafford.
“You will have to talk with Jason [Wilcox]. We have a department that is responsible for that part,” Amorim said.
“I’m just focused on the performance on Sunday and to try and win the game.
“We talk every day. It’s not a formal meeting, but we are talking about all the situations. We are trying to see every situation.
“It’s not an idea that ‘these players are going to leave and then we’ll receive another player’. We don’t know what is going to happen but we are not waiting to take out someone to bring another player [in].
“One thing is not responsible for the other. The players you’re talking about are not players who are training with the group in this moment.
“We have a group training so it’s not going to affect a lot.”
