KUWAIT: Fifty nurses from the Kuwait Center for Mental Health and the Addiction Treatment Center have begun a six-day workshop aimed at boosting their skills in caring for patients with mental health and addiction challenges.
The Ministry of Health, through its Nursing Services Department, is running the training in partnership with the University of Jordan. A visiting professor from the university is leading the sessions, making this the second specialized mental health workshop organized by the ministry this year.
The ministry said the initiative is part of its “ongoing efforts to strengthen mental health services by equipping nursing staff with the latest knowledge and skills to deliver quality care in specialized fields.” It follows a training session held earlier this month, which focused on preparing nurses working in maternity wards. That workshop was organized in collaboration with the Oman College of Health Sciences and took place at the New Maternity Hospital.
The mental health training program includes both theoretical lectures and hands-on practical exercises. It focuses on developing nurses’ abilities to assess and manage care for patients with psychological disorders, while also enhancing professional communication skills and ensuring compassionate patient treatment.
Participants engage in interactive discussions and activities that increase self-awareness, build clinical competence through emotional intelligence and teamwork, and train nurses on how to handle workplace stress effectively. The workshop aims to prepare healthcare workers to face daily challenges with professionalism and efficiency. — KUNA
