KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Supreme Tourism Committee will soon operate under a dedicated structure within state institutions, as the country moves toward a more coordinated, data-driven approach to developing and revitalizing its tourism sector, Information and Culture Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi said on Wednesday.
Al-Mutairi said all tourism projects will be implemented in line with national strategies and state policy. The aim, he added, is to reach accurate figures on tourist numbers, the scale of events and their economic impact. “These figures will serve as references we can rely on and provide to any institution that needs them, inside Kuwait or abroad,” he said.
The minister was speaking while chairing a meeting of the Supreme Tourism Committee held at Waldorf Astoria at The Avenues mall. During the meeting, the committee reviewed upcoming national, tourism, and cultural initiatives submitted by government bodies, private sector entities and civil society groups. These activities are scheduled for the coming period and aim to diversify events for different age groups and social segments, while applying recognized tourism standards.
Al-Mutairi said tourism development depends on cooperation between government entities, the private sector, and civil society through a participatory approach that unifies efforts and maximizes benefits. Al-Mutairi said recent months have seen “clear achievements,” pointing to successful projects and improved levels of organization. “We want to establish an institutional memory for the tourism sector and build a database for the procedures we implement,” he said. This, he added, would allow Kuwait to benefit from accumulated experience through formal regulations and guidelines that support long-term development.
Al-Mutairi said the committee’s work has helped provide updated information on events through the Visit Kuwait platform, which promotes and markets listed activities. He said the platform is being continuously developed, while the committee receives initiatives and proposals from various stakeholders.
“The presence of initiatives and the participation of specialists reflect the committee’s ambition and performance,” he said.
The minister stressed that the goal is to ensure visitors from inside and outside Kuwait receive services at the highest level. He said this includes strong infrastructure, quality services and well-organized events that leave visitors satisfied with their overall experience. — KUNA
