Crown Prince, PM congratulate Sheikh Meshal on second anniversary of assuming office
KUWAIT: Kuwait marked on Saturday HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s second anniversary of being named as Amir, celebrating years of rapid achievements and accelerated developments. Last year alone, and due to the directives of HH the Amir, Kuwait witnessed an unprecedented path based on the rule of law and justice for all, through fighting corruption and protecting the welfare of Kuwaitis.
The path for glory began in 2023 when HH the Amir became the 17th ruler of the country, taking the helm after decades of success in numerous security, military and leadership roles, including Crown Prince and Deputy Chief of the National Guard. On Dec 16, 2023, the Cabinet met and announced the passing of late Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, proclaiming HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, then Crown Prince, as Amir according to the constitution and article four of the law concerning succession. On Dec 20, HH the Amir took the constitutional oath at a special National Assembly session, becoming the state’s 17th Amir, as per stipulations of article 60 of the constitution.
HH the Amir’s tenure has seen legislative updates — particularly in traffic and anti-narcotics laws — alongside strengthened security through new defense strategies and upgraded coast guard and National Guard capabilities. Economic progress included reforms in licensing and real estate, AI-focused global partnerships by the Kuwait Investment Authority and significant oil and gas discoveries, as well as innovation initiatives within the petroleum sector.
Advances were also recorded in health, education, research, media and culture, including robotic surgeries, space research agreements, digital archiving and Kuwait being named the 2025 Capital of Arab Media and Culture. Major infrastructure projects, such as Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port and the new airport terminal, are moving forward.
Internationally, HH the Amir strengthened Kuwait’s diplomatic presence through high-level visits and partnerships with the UK, France, Saudi Arabia, Oman and others, while hosting regional and global leaders — reinforcing Kuwait’s regional and international standing.
HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal received a congratulatory letter on Saturday from HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the second anniversary of assuming office. HH the Crown Prince expressed his warmest congratulations and best wishes for continued health and success in leading Kuwait toward further prosperity, stability and sustainable development, commending the country’s achievements under HH the Amir’s wise leadership. HH the Crown Prince reaffirmed his commitment to supporting comprehensive development and national progress plans, stressing that the occasion reflects the nation’s steady advancement.
HH the Amir sent a reply letter thanking HH the Crown Prince for the kind words, expressing appreciation for the dedication, loyalty and ongoing efforts in serving Kuwait and its people. HH the Amir reaffirmed that the anniversary renews determination to continue working together to achieve comprehensive development and sustainable growth, grounded in unity, cooperation, security and stability.
HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal also received on Saturday a congratulatory letter from HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the occasion of the second anniversary of assumption of power. HH the Amir sent a reply letter to HH Sheikh Ahmad, voicing sincere thanks and appreciation to him for such good sentiments and heartfelt hopes, and wishing perpetual security and welfare for the dear nation. — KUNA
